Capturing the passing of a cloud its light and cast shadows with precise calculation, at a moment in history in the 1800’s when President Lincoln
was said to have ridden by on his horse on a street in Washington, D.C. and was observed by a citizen who happened to be in the same spot.
The cloud is represented by a medium of crinkled, transparent colored plastic, and hangs
suspended from the Rotunda ceiling. Viewers can walk all around it to observe the shadow effect.

Clouds in Georgetown
Spiral sculpture
quotes found at the US Botanical Gardens
in Washington DC:
The outdoor garden at the US Botanical Gardens has a pond which originally had these large spiral quotes by Lady Bird Johnson (an environmentalist in her time), on top of them. Unfortunately, these text spirals have been removed from the pond, but these were some photos of them.

Restoration and artwork at the Corcoran Gallery:

A sign posted outside of the Corcoran describes renovation efforts that took place this past year (2009) to restore the buildings white marble façade and replace the roof, among other improvements. The sign uses a very nice calligraphic style script font with long swashes.

Bronze lions sit outside of the front entrance to the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
This lion is the sleeping lion and the one above is the“awake lion” signifying
art creation and art history. The lions have a dark green patina overtop the
bronze.
Inside:
An exhibition by Elena del Rivero made
from found objects, representing the concepts of change and chance, can be seen
in the doorway from the bottom of the marble staircase.
The staircase is lined with marble statuary.

The Corcoran atrium was repainted a dark red, and has a Greek frieze around
one side of it just below the ceiling, seen in the picture on the left.
