In this position I worked as a webmaster and content developer on
the NeighborWorks® America website for a period
of six months, on a contract assignment through The Creative
Group. NeighborWorks® America is a national
nonprofit association that was created by Congress in 1978. The
association's mission is to provide financial support and reinvestment
opportunities for low-income and economically underprivileged communities
on a national basis. It does this through homeownership education,
training and assistance; community economic development; and extensive
community-based revitalization efforts.
My job
as webmaster
involved creating, developing, and editing new website content and
materials, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of all existing
content for both the association's public and private member websites.
This included the preparation and posting of PDF, Word, and PowerPoint
files as well as other resource materials for the website; preparation
and online editing of news release and feature articles; the development
of new website sections, i.e. the annual awards sections; compilation
and editing of the NeighborWorks e-newsletter; and creation/production
of graphics and photos using Adobe Creative Suite software, all
in support of the association's ongoing nonprofit activities. Working
as a webmaster for this association gave me a thorough understanding
of how to maintain a large website using the Content Management
System Macromedia Contribute, as well as a thorough familiarity
with the website's extensive navigation, architecture, and content
sections. In addition, I also gained an understanding about the
important work NeighborWorks® does as a national
nonprofit to help underprivileged communities across the country.
