Original
redesign: March-April,
2002
Second redesign:
May-June, 2005
Although the logo above was already the Greater
Washington Orthopaedic Group's logo, in 2002, I redesigned
the original GWOG web site, creating a new navigation and interface
architecture as well as reformatting the layout of their existing
content, while adding some new content such as the Directions pages.
This past year, in 2005, I redesigned the site again for a second
time, with some significant changes to make it more user friendly,
as well as to implement a different style navigation/interface with
a new header design.
The new navigation and interface better integrate with the content
of the site, and also provide it with a more cohesive structure. The
main navigtion is comprised of JavaScript rollover image buttons that
turn from a dark navy text, to a white text, on top of a dark blue,
when moused over. A secondary navigation can also be found at the
bottom of each page.
Improvements
include better display of information within the New Patients'
section, where a printable patient form and a Privacy Practices
form were both added and made available in MS Word format, and HTML.
A pop-up window on that page also provides information on Insurance
Providers, with a separate link to the same information for browsers
that don't support the pop-up. In the original redesign maps and pictures
were created for the Directions pages for each of GWOG's
Rockville, Silver Spring, Germantown and Olney, Maryland office locations.
These were updated and placed on separate pages for each location.
A new online contact form was added as well, for the Contact
page, which allows patients to communicate with the office manager
regarding appointments and other non-confidential matters.
The site's color palette was reworked to better incorporate the color
of the GWOG dark burgundy logo which shows the graphic image
of a runner. The dark burgundy was combined with a dark navy blue
and a light gray throughout the site. In the first design I had added
new photos of the GWOG physical therapy staff, as well as some
photos of their doctors. The second design still uses theses photos
along with some new photos for the doctors' bios. The Links
to Other Orthopaedic Sites page has also been updated. The
GWOG home page still incorporates the same photo layout, which
shows images of people who could require different types of orthopaedic
health care. The addition of a background photo below the header area
of the athletic runners adds some visual interest, and also complements
the graphic image of the runner in the GWOG logo.
